It was just about dry enough this morning to break out the wheel hoe and run it through the over wintered broad beans. Weeds are just starting to make their way into the crop so disrupting their progress can only be a good thing.
The double wheeled hoe is ideal for cultivating between standing crops when they are young. It’s also very efficient, letting me work three 100ft beds is about 15 minutes. Hoeing in damp conditions isn’t the best for killing weeds but as spring progresses you feel the need to get started as soon as you can to try to keep ahead of the game.
