'Cultivate' Creative Writing Workshop

The start of an exciting year of arts projects based at Burscough Community Farm

On the 25th March from 11am-1pm, we are launching CULTIVATE, a year-long series of arts-based activities at BCF. Starting with Creative Writing, the workshop is free, and no previous experience is required.

As we prepare the ground, sew seeds and begin the new growing season, why not get your creative juices flowing with a fun, creative writing workshop at the farm, inspired by the cycle of rebirth and renewal. The event will launch a year-long series of free arts-based workshops led by Victoria Foster and me, Barnaby King, with help from experienced guest artists.

The Creative Writing Workshop will also be part of a public open day at the farm, at which you can find out more about volunteering or just come down and see how things are progressing. A sumptuous (and healthy) lunch will be provided (for donations) by our favourite vegetarian and vegan caterers ‘Give Peas a Chance.’

There has always been a strong bond between nature and art, and this year Victoria and I (who are BCF members as well as being academics from Edge Hill University) are hoping to harness and explore that connection in a series of arts-based workshops throughout the year. These will include natural sculpture, photography, dance/movement and, to kick off, creative writing.

Each art-form will involve an initial session with a guest artist, followed by 3 weekly meetings to consolidate and expand on the work already begun. There will be (voluntary) opportunities to share the work produced at various points throughout the year.
