Burscough Community Farm – Annual Membership

£36.00

We are called Burscough Community Farm, but that doesn’t mean you must live in Burscough to be a member. We have members from all over the area.

Why Do We Have A Membership Scheme?

The membership fees help pay for seeds, compost, insurance and general overheads of running the farm.

The benefits of membership are:

  • You can come along and take part in farm life
  • You can take some produce home (when available)
  • You’re supporting local, sustainable, wildlife-friendly food production
  • You can attend our social events
  • You have a vote and say about how the farm runs
  • You have the opportunity to become a director
  • You learn about organic growing, arts, crafts and wildlife
  • You receive our regular newsletter
  • You’ll be able to receive regular discounts and offers

Being a member is an essential part of the way that the farm runs, but volunteering is what it says, ‘voluntary’. There is no pressure to come on the field to give us a hand, but we couldn’t run the farm without our members working with us, especially at planting and harvest times. We encourage you to come to the farm, but we also really appreciate our members who want to support the farm by just becoming a member.

Don’t be put off by the physical nature of the work. If you work with us, you do the jobs that physically suit you. Many of our members are retired and do what feels right for them. There are gentle jobs like sitting sowing seeds in the polytunnel, tidying up, DIY building projects, filling in funding applications, or even just making the tea. At the other end of the scale, you can participate in planting, weeding, hoeing and harvesting; you do what suits you.

We believe in keeping as physically active as you are able. Going home after a day of fresh air and meaningful physical exercise is medically proven to bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing.

If you’re not sure membership is for you, come along on a volunteer day. We will show you around, and you can try it out. If you want any more information, please don’t hesitate to give us a call or send an email.

The membership fee for 2024 will be £36.00 per household.
